Are you reporting vandalism, anti-social behaviour or other crime?
Only a small number of businesses that are subject to, or witness, vandalism or anti-social behaviour report it to the Police. Picton Police are therefore unaware of the extent of these crimes in Tahmoor. The Chamber has intervened on occasions so that Picton Police know the extent of crime but we are unable to officially report crime on behalf of other businesses.

If there were 15 letterboxes blown up in one street and none were reported and 2 blown up in another street with 2 reported the police would then know there was a problem in the street where 2 boxes were damaged but no problem in the street where there was 15. It is imperative that ALL ACTS OF VANDALISM (including graffiti), ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ETC. be reported to 131444 as this is the only way that we can improve the vandalism problem in Tahmoor. If you do have CCTV footage available you need to advise the operator as Picton Police will come and see you to view the footage.

Once you have phoned the Police Assistance Line (131444) and made your complaint you will be given a reporting number which then becomes a reported matter, this problem is then passed on to the local Picton station and is recorded and dealt with where necessary. It is important to remember that just because you may not receive a visit from the Police does not mean that your complaint will not be followed through. The more complaints that police receive the easier it is for them to see a pattern forming and act on it, this is why the 131444 number was set up to enable reporting of these matters easy.

If you do have a problem or have had a problem also notifying the Chamber (after you notify the Police) as that will help us keep a record of what is happening. The Tahmoor Chamber of Commerce Vandalism Committee can be contacted on 4681 9009 (Lyn) or 4683 1386 (Di) or you may prefer to email the details at:

Other aspects which may be of interest are:

* There seems to be an ongoing problem with bike riders and skateboarders on the foot paths having no regards for people stepping out of shops and the possibility of hitting them. This matter was raised at a Council meeting and is an ongoing matter that Chamber is trying to deal with. A new Youth Issue Group has just been formed in the hope if trying to combat this problem. You will hear more about this soon.

* Anti-Social Behaviour- If you witness any anti-social behaviour please contact Picton Police on 4677 8999 with details of the incident and descriptions e.g. how many involved, age, clothes they may be wearing etc. Picton Police want to know about it and this will again assist them in tasking more Police to this area
